Canadian illustrator Jon Klassen wins $750,000 Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award

#Kudos to Canadian illustrator Jon Klassen for winning the $750,000 Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award

Imagine not only being recognized but also being awarded 750K for your contribution to your field of work.

Awards in all fields are important.  All people are in some part driven by recognition. But people also need to earn a living.  Recent data shows that the median artist’s income is $30,200. There is something wrong with this picture and we’re doing something about it.

Artists are not just integral to the vibrancy of our communities; they are meaningful contributors to our economies. Consider this.
·      The arts and culture contributed approximately $65 billion in direct GDP to the Canadian economy in 2024, which accounts for roughly 2% of the total national GDP.
·      When including indirect impacts, the total contribution reaches $131 billion.
·      The sector has experienced significant growth, often outpacing the overall Canadian economy, and supports over 1.1 million jobs.

We need to recognize the value of artists and leverage art’s full potential.

At Open Art we’ve created a platform that enables property holders or managers to integrate art into their spaces, not just to beautify, but to fully leverage the value of these assets.
